Qantas Flies to Top 10 In World Airline Rankings

Qantas needed to move just one space from the previous rankings to get to the top ten world airlines according to the annual Skytrax Awards.

The "Flying Kangaroo" is not only 10th overall, but the carrier has also impressed in several categories, including Business Class, First Class and Premium Economy cabins.

After the awards Qantas tweeted:

"We're honored to have been voted top ten in the world at this year's #SkytraxAwards!. Thanks everyone for voting for #Qantas."

Who Else Made it to the Top 10?

The best airline for this year is Qatar Airline. The Middle East carrier jumped ahead of 2014 winners Cathay Pacific, which dropped to 3rd place, and Singapore Airlines on 2nd.

Next are Turkish Airlines, Emirates, and Etihad Airways, followed by ANA All Nippon, Garuda Indonesia and Eva Air from Thailand.

The awards, held in Paris, France, are a result of a global passenger survey, in which nearly 19 million travelers participated between September 2014 and May 2015.

Virgin Australia dropped one place in the rankings from last year and is now 16th overall.

How did the Other Categories Went?

Qantas also made it to 2nd place for Best Economy cabin, with the 1st place slipping just so. Asiana Airlines from South Korea took that coveted prize, beating Qantas, Singapore Airlines and Qatar Airways.

Malaysian carrier AirAsia was named best low cost carrier, flying its way past Virgin America, Norwegian, Easyjet, UK and Australia's Jetstar.

Qantas was also 4th overall in the best in-flight entertainment. This award went to Emirates.
