4th Sep 2015

Qantas has added a new name to help the company push commerce, financial and operational performance in China. The new country manager, with the base in Shanghai for the carrier will be former Emirates regional sales manager for Taiwan, Alan Chang.

Talking about his new position with Qantas, Chang said he is looking forward to improving the company's position in China:

"China is an incredibly important market for Qantas, as well as Australia's most valuable inbound tourism market. Together with Qantas' ongoing commitment to delivering outstanding product and service, our joint venture with China Eastern will also allow us to boost connectivity between China and Australia, deliver expanded services and increased frequent-flyer benefits. There is certainly a lot to look forward to for Qantas customers in China."

Chang's nomination is especially important as Qantas has just gained the approval from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) for their alliance with China Eastern. In addition, the Australian carrier is also moving on with its rollout of the revamped Airbus A330 aircraft for Asian routes, Sydney and Shanghai, among them.

Prior to joining Qantas, Chang worked for Emirates in Taiwan as its regional sales manager there and was responsible for establishing the local office and operations for the carrier in this country. Before that, Chang also worked as GM for Holiday Tours and Travel for five yours. During that time, he represented Qantas and Jetstar as general sales agent in Taiwan.

Alan Chang joins Qantas' team in Asia, which also includes Wyn Li, the airline's general manager for Hong Kong. Together, these two will manage Qantas' South China Market. In addition, Li's responsibilities have grown, as he will take on Taiwan as general manager as well, making him the GM for South China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, combined.
