11th Jun 2013
Jetstar's Boeing 787 Dreamliner will debut its domestic service on November this year before taking the long-haul flights the following month.
Qantas' low-cost subsidiary will first concentrate on the country's busiest routes such as Cairns, Gold Coast, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney. Jetstar expects to take delivery of its first Boeing 787 aircraft no later than September this year. By then, it will become the first airline from Australia to have B787 in its fleet.
The airliner will feature 12 recliner-style seats for its business class and 314 slimline seats for its economy class.
Mark Dal Pra, however, told the Australian Business Traveller that they are still on the process of identifying the launch routes, adding that they might come up with their decision this month. Dal Pra, who heads the airline's Dreamliner program, further said that they will probably pick busy routes currently serviced by Airbus A320.
He excitedly told the media that the deployment of B787 Dreamliner on the said routes will definitely offer domestic travelers an opportunity to experience the airliner's state-of-the-art features and enhanced services on board.
Jetstar has outstanding orders of 14 B787 from Boeing company, three of them will be delivered before the year ends. The delivery of the rest of the planes shall continue through 2015.
According to the airline official, they will gradually replace their fleet of eleven A330s, one each for every delivery of Dreamliner planes. So that by 2015, Jetstar shall have an all-Dreamliner fleet for its long-haul service.
