16th Jul 2014

The state flag carrier and its low-cost subsidiary, Jetstar Airways, have proven once again that they are still the forces to reckon with in the region with their recent awards.

Qantas was voted the 'Best Airline in Australia/Pacific' overall, while Jetstar got the fourth place. In the low-cost category, Jetstar bested three other budget carriers in the region when it was named the 'Best Airline in Australia/Pacific.'

The annual World Airline Awards, presented by Skytrax, are given to airlines that excel in 41 performance indicators as rated by the readers in a global survey that was taken over a 10-month period.

The state-owned flag carrier also snared the 'Best Premium Economy Class Catering' award.

Of the 100 airlines overall ranking, Qantas took the 11th position in addition to its top 10 placement in three other categories, namely, 4th as 'Best Airline In-flight Entertainment', 4th as 'Best Business Airline Lounges', and 6th as 'Best Airlines Business Class.'

The survey was taken over a 10-month period where more than 18 million respondents participated to rate the world's 100 airlines based on the 41 performance indicators. According to Olivia Wirth, Qantas Group Executive, Brand, Marketing and Corporate Affairs, their customers experience some of the best travel experiences in the world.

She added that the recognition bestowed upon them by their customers is the result of their ongoing commitment to offer them the best service they can with the new lounges, state-of-the-art technology, and investment in in-flight products. She further claimed that being awarded as such is indeed an honor given the highly-competitive level in the region.

She was also very grateful to the entire Qantas staff who works hard to help our customers experience the best service that Qantas is always known for.

Jetstar's recognition as the 'Best Low-Cost Airline' in Australia/Pacific region is its fourth consecutive honor in as many years. Its CEO, Jayne Hrdlicka, couldn't contain her excitement over the recognition her airline receives this year.

Aside from the recent awards from Skytrax, Qantas has also received recognitions from various award-giving bodies including 'Best Airline in Australia' from Tripadvisor Traveler's Choice Awards for 2014. It also pocketed the most coveted 'Best Airline Wine List' in a global survey of over 4,000 restaurants the world over.
