Qantas Partners with Meridian Energy
11th May 2016
Australian flag carrier Qantas and Meridian Energy have signed a partnership according which the New Zealand-based electricity generator and retailer will offer its customers free membership to the Qantas Frequent Flyer Program.
In addition, current Meridian Energy customers will be able to enter a draw and possibly win one of 10 prizes of 20,000 Qantas Points. At the same time, the NZ company is also rewarding its new customers with 10,000 Qantas Points.
The partnership between the two companies follows Qantas' expansion within New Zealand, which also includes Jetstar's newest regional services.
Lesley Grant, Chief Executive Officer at Qantas Loyalty, explained that the partnership with Meridian Energy comes at a good time for New Zealand travellers, as they can now earn and redeem Qantas Points on international flights with Qantas, Jetstar and Qantas' partners Emirates and American Airlines. In addition, customers can also redeem and earn Qantas points almost 500 weekly domestic flights with regional carrier Jetstar, said Grant.
Ms Grant said:
"We know our frequent flyers in New Zealand want to use their Qantas Points to fly to a broad range of destinations so whether it's from Palmerston North to Paris or Wellington to Washington, we're always looking at new opportunities to help them reach their next Reward flight faster."
Qantas Loyalty CEO also added:
"New Zealand has the second largest population of Qantas Frequent Flyers and it's important for us to keep expanding our range of program partners as we continue to grow our customer base. The Qantas Frequent Flyer Program is all about rewarding our members for the products and services they use. Energy certainly fits into that category, so we're pleased to be offering members another new way to earn Qantas Points through Meridian.
According to Neal Barclay, General Manager of Retail at Meridian, the partnership signed with Qantas provides a great incentive to new customers to join Meridian and also show the company's approach to working closely with customer-focused businesses.
Mr Barclay said:
"We're excited to offer customers an opportunity to visit their friends or family or just to take a holiday on us, do some shopping at the Qantas Store or even upgrade a flight. In a competitive electricity market this partnership offers Meridian an opportunity to stand out from the pack and acquire valuable new customers.
